Ebook About The room is dark, except for the streetlights coming through the blinds. I can barely see her, but I feel her. She pushes me up against the wall and we kiss harder than we ever have before. I’ve been waiting so long for it to happen, and finally, it’s going to. Then the bedroom door flies open, and someone screams her name…Britton Walsh has never had a home. After a lifetime in the care system, she doesn't expect she’ll ever find one. But beginning her senior year with new foster parents in a new city, means starting over yet again. Tom and Cate Cahill seem okay. The hitch? Their daughter, Avery.Beautiful, popular and cool, Avery is everything Britton is not. She’s all Britton could ever ask for in a sister, or even a friend––but having survived without either for so long, Britton knows the way her heart races whenever Avery enters the room can only mean one thing… But Avery has a secret. Something that is eating away at her and stopping her letting anyone in, least of all Britton. Will Avery’s insistence on punishing herself for a mistake in her past make Britton's last year of high school, and finding a place to call home, impossible? Can two such different people ever find common ground, friendship, or maybe even something more? Started reading and couldn't put it down. Absolutely loved this book. It reminds the reader again of how difficult it is to come out---especially when you're a teenager. So much is always expected of you. This tells of how a child can hate the foster system but has no where else to turn. Britton really just wanted a family--someone to love her. She knew she was a lesbian from her early years but didn't tell the world because she figured the world already hated her so why add additional fuel to the fire? Avery was the one person who could make her think differently but would that ever come to fruition? Both young women were just trying to get through high school. They sure didn't plan on things working out the way they did. I could feel "all the feels" that they had. Story was so well written that I lived their feelings. It was very sweet to see them learn to navigate the world. Their friends helped enormously and I really liked the foster family, Cate and Tom and of course, Avery. Loved them all. The epilogue solved my worry about Spence and whether she could find her "someone". Even if you are not usually drawn to young adult stories, I highly recommend this one. It is such an amazing read. It has everything--love, friends, coming out, grief, acceptance, relationships and did I mention love!!! This author is so darn good that I will automatically read everything she writes. Thank you so much for sharing this story with the rest of us, Kristen Zimmer. I loved this book. I wholeheartedly feel that this should not be the end of Britton and Avery. Coming out to your friends and family should only be the beginning, or possibly, the middle. So yeah, Ima hope that I can and will read more of their lives. So my saying that, as a review I personally feel that others would like it. If they can deal with a slightly less mature aspect, this isn’t really a good book for someone who is interested in reading about women in their thirties who continuously fall into bed with each other. No, but this would be good for everyone else. There’s slang that I understood, and slang that I didn’t. A lot of heart within these words. Foster kid with a heart condition ending up in the house of a rich cheerleader who is secretly super depressed? Super good basic storyline told in first person.I am now a #BrAvery fan.
